Today is the last day of our Yosemite back country adventure. While we’ve really enjoyed being on our own out in the wilderness, we’re ready to get back to the comforts of car camping (which include an air mattress, much lighter backpacks, actual bathrooms, and food that doesn’t come in a vacuum-sealed pouch….yay!).
We hiked through several different types of beautiful terrain today. The trail ran along Glen Aulin Falls for about a mile at the beginning of our hike. As the trail went on along a flat meadow river, it got very sandy and was sort of like walking on the beach in hiking boots and 40lb pack…luckily that didn’t last too long. We reached Tuolumne Meadows around 3pm and were so happy to be back in a populated area. Since we missed the last bus down to the valley for the day, we headed for the backpackers campground. Once we set up our tent and dropped our packs off, we went straight to the near-by Tuolumne Meadows grill to celebrate our 25-mile, four day hike over some well-deserved cheeseburgers. Exactly what we’d been dreaming of all day long.
Yosemite is our favorite National Park we’ve been to so far on this trip. We’ve had such a great time here and we’re definitely planning on returning as soon as possible. Since it’s necessary to reserve campsites a year or two in advance due to high demand, we better start planning it now!
